The USB Powered IR repeater allows you to control your set top box behind closed doors.  This repeater has a wide IR range from 30 to 60KHz which makes it ideal for higher frequency set top boxes such as those designed by Cisco, Scientific Atlanta, and samsung.   Simply plug the USB plug to a spare USB jack on your set top box to power the unit and stick the IR emitter on the front of your box facing the set top box existing infrared receiver.  Stick the IR receiver within line of site of your remote control and you'll never have to open your cabinet doors again to control your cable, fios, or satellite tv converter box.
